Malnutrition Intervention ProTein ForTified EthIopian Nutrition

A ministry partnership project of Children’s Cross Connection, New Covenant Foundation and Christian World Foundation.

The Product

MITTIN is a dry formula made of 12 Ethiopian grown grains and seeds. Formulated by the nannies of the Soddo orphanage and developed under the auspices of Children’s Cross Connection Ethiopia (CCC), MITTIN is a high protein nutritional supplement beneficial for children, mothers recovering from giving birth and hospital patients. During a five day process, grains are weighed, cleaned, washed, sun dried, cleaned again, roasted and ground into powder form. The product can be served as a drink or porridge. The protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and plant oils found in MITTIN offer concentrated nutrition that enables a much faster recovery from malnutrition, giving birth and illness than the traditional Ethiopian diet. Because the product is in dry form, it can be easily distributed over a wide geographic area.

The Project

MITTIN is the sole ownership product of CCC created for ministry in Ethiopia and other parts of Africa. With the support of New Covenant Foundation (NCF) and Christian World Foundation (CWF), MITTIN will provide:

• Nutrition at low cost for people in need
• Employment for farmers, production workers, sales associates and distributors
• Service to local communities
• Opportunities for evangelism

The Vision

MITTIN was originally produced solely for children in the Soddo CCC orphanage. But God has provided a larger vision of producing MITTIN for distribution throughout Ethiopia. While some MITTIN will be provided free to the disabled and poorest of the poor, the prevailing model will be to sell MITTIN at a low cost.

While the approach to MITTIN development is a business model, MITTIN is a not-for-profit enterprise focused on feeding the poor and spreading the Gospel.

The goal is for MITTIN to become a self supporting ministry. Every phase of the vision will be implemented with the Ethiopian government’s guidance and approval. With the Lord’s help, MITTIN will be an important tool for nutrition, opportunity and hope.
