Food4Kids Report

Dear Friends,

Because of your generosity, hundreds of children have been fed through the Food4Kids program. As construction at Acacia Village continues, the site has also been used as a distribution hub to feed children in the local community of Sebetta, Ethiopia (19 km west of Addis Ababa). Two initiatives have been accomplished: (1) the distribution of food to hungry children and, (2) training for parents and guardians to better provide for the children in their care.

CWA hosted a nutrition-training event for the Sebetta community in cooperation with local officials. The training continued in the two other areas, Awash and Tefki, and focused on hygiene, child nutrition, food preservation and child rights and protection. The Deputy Administrator, Mr. Woldermariam Geleta, and other officials were with CWA at all the three venues to deliver remarks and encourage participants to be attentive and use the training to enhance the lives of children.

CWA nurses participated in organizing the training and preparing the materials together with our adoption team. Over 300 participants including health and agriculture extension workers, school teachers, community leaders and mothers attended the training sessions.

During food distribution, our staff was particularly inspired by the construction workers at the Acacia Village site who took time away from their jobs to help distribute food. This included the contractor who provided the use of his truck, free of charge, and laborers to assist CWA in the food distribution. Moreover, food distribution has also extended to an additional 750 children living in Sebetta who were identified as orphans due to HIV/AIDS.

Thank you for your heart for orphaned children. We could not have made Food4Kids a faithful success without you!

Food4Kids Update

The Lord has worked through YOU to provide over $35,000 for the Food4Kids program!

In October, Christian World Foundation set a goal of raising $30,000 to distribute food for hungry children in Ethiopia — in just ten weeks, the goal was met, and exceeded!

As construction plans for Acacia Village are finalized, we wanted to put the land to use by setting up a temporary food distribution site. Now, because of your generosity, we will be able to provide food for hungry children in the community surrounding the Acacia Village land. Utilizing existing CWA infrastructure in Ethiopia, Christian World Foundation will be able to mobilize nutritional supplies with very low administrative costs.

As famine continues in Ethiopia, we are grateful to provide some relief for those who need it the most. And as we continue to work with you in ministry, we want to say thanks for making this vision a reality.

Some Children Are Hungry...

Thanks to your generosity over the years, you have helped Christian World Foundation distribute over $150,000 worth of cold weather clothing for orphans. Your earlier participation in the Coats4Kids project helped spread God’s love and care to many children in many nations. And this year, we have a new opportunity to feed some hungry children in Ethiopia through a new project called Food4Kids.

While we in the United States are facing our own financial crisis, the worldwide recession is hitting Ethiopians even harder than we can imagine. So it is vital that your giving dollars go directly to people in need. Our Ethiopian staff report widespread famine and hardship. The price of teff, the grain used to make their food staple, injera bread, has tripled. Inflation is above 20%. As we face concerns about retirement, millions in Ethiopia struggle for the next meal—and those who suffer the most are children.

Christian World Foundation is finalizing the plans to begin construction of Acacia Village in Ethiopia. But until we start construction, we wanted to put the Acacia Village land site to good use by initiating Food4Kids.

With your support, CWF will open a temporary food bank on the Acacia Village land site. This will serve the local community of Sebeta by providing immediate nutritional relief. Because we already have infrastructure in place in Ethiopia, we can establish this aid at a very low cost.

So Let’s Feed Them

We are inviting you to participate in this special food drive. A donation today of $25, $50, $100, $500, or more, will positively impact the famine in Ethiopia. Our goal is to provide at least $30,000 of food to the community surrounding Acacia Village before Christmas 2008. In lieu of a material gift this Christmas, make a donation in honor or in memory of a loved one. CWF will then send an card acknowledging your gift. You can make your donation online here »

Thanks again for your support of CWF and the Food4Kids project. Your contribution meets an urgent need. If you would like more information about Food4Kids, or about hosting an event for Acacia Village in your home or church, then please contact Louis Fawcett, CWF’s Director of Development.

God's peace and blessings to you and your family during this season of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
