Food4Kids Report
Dear Friends, Because of your generosity, hundreds of children have been fed through the Food4Kids program. As construction at Acacia Village continues, the site has also been used as a distribution hub to feed children in the local community of Sebetta, Ethiopia (19 km west of Addis Ababa). Two initiatives have been accomplished: (1) the distribution of food to hungry children and, (2) training for parents and guardians to better provide for the children in their care. CWA hosted a nutrition-training event for the Sebetta community in cooperation with local officials. The training continued in the two other areas, Awash and Tefki, and focused on hygiene, child nutrition, food preservation and child rights and protection. The Deputy Administrator, Mr. Woldermariam Geleta, and other officials were with CWA at all the three venues to deliver remarks and encourage participants to be attentive and use the training to enhance the lives of children. CWA nurses participated in organizing the training and preparing the materials together with our adoption team. Over 300 participants including health and agriculture extension workers, school teachers, community leaders and mothers attended the training sessions. During food distribution, our staff was particularly inspired by the construction workers at the Acacia Village site who took time away from their jobs to help distribute food. This included the contractor who provided the use of his truck, free of charge, and laborers to assist CWA in the food distribution. Moreover, food distribution has also extended to an additional 750 children living in Sebetta who were identified as orphans due to HIV/AIDS. Thank you for your heart for orphaned children. We could not have made Food4Kids a faithful success without you! Louis Fawcett |
